Even pirates walk around their ship with a parrot on their shoulder on the high seas.
It’s better than carrying a chip on your shoulder.
I’m much more colorful and personable and I can talk up a storm.
Just say the word and I will too.

Parrots are able to speak through their syrinx which is part of their trachea. They do not have vocal cords but the syrinx is able to regulate their pitch and tone when they speak.
Parrots can engage in conversation with their owner or with visitors but they have no clue as to what they are saying but if you talk with them for extended periods of time it will seem like they do understand.
Parrots talk differently with themselves then they do with their owner or others.
They talk like birds making typical bird sounds and sometimes they even sing among each other or with their owner.
Parrots are intelligent birds and can over time if trained and schooled properly learn 2,000 words as part of their vocabulary but others only learn a dozen words at most.
It all depends on the parrot and the level of training they have.
Parrots are exotic pets and require great care and a cage adequately sized so they have room to maneuver in and has toys and plenty of space for them.
Parrots are domesticated birds and can exist in the wild. They fly in flocks and at heights up to 500 feet. Parrots are social animals and prefer to live with others. They do not like to be alone.
The kakapo is one of the largest parrots in the world and the only parrot that is flightless. They live in New Zealand and are critically endangered and the government has instituted laws and policies to protect these amazing birds. They resemble owls and are also called owl parrots.
There are over 350 species of parrots ranging in size, weight and characteristics.
Most habitat in warm climates and enjoy the beaches but there are some that live in the cold and enjoy the snow.
Parrots living in the wild seek out others to form lifelong bonds with.
Parrots that mate are committed to each other for their lives together and take care of their young chicks.
They build nests together, forage for food, defend their territory and groom each other’s plumage.
Birds that are part of the parrot family include macaws, lovebirds, lories, lorikeets, keas, parakeets, cockatoos and cockatiels.
The smallest parrot is the buff faced pygmy parrot measuring 3 inches in length.
The largest parrot is the hyacinth macaw, which measures over 3 feet from the tip of its tail to its head and weighs nearly 4 pounds.
The parrotlet is the smallest pet parrot measuring 4.5 inches and they make for wonderful pets but they require a lot of attention and patience.
They are highly social animals that enjoy play. They are cute and very affectionate and if they are loved and cared for they will love you back tenfold.
They are small in size but big in personality.
Parrots have a lifespan of between 10 and 50 years depending on species, lifestyle, geography and whether they are domesticated or live in the wild.
There are sanctuaries for parrots to help protect them and keep them safe. It is a sad reality that some parrots are self destructive as they pluck their own feathers and self mutilate themselves so
there are organizations necessary for the sophisticated care these birds require in getting them treated and on the path to a healthier lifestyle.
In finding a home for a parrot you must check with your state or country’s laws as some species of parrots are illegal to have as pets.
Also if you wish to care for a parrot you might want to check with a veterinarian to see if companionship is necessary as some birds prefer to have another to live with but you will need a cage that will allow two to live together. You also need to make sure they are comfortable and compatible with one another.
Parrots are vegetarians and can eat fruits and vegetables including grapes, papaya, pear, pumpkin, squash, pomegranate, asparagus, bell pepper, chives, leek, broccoli, zucchini among other fruits and vegetables and seeds.
In feeding you pet parrots you must make sure that the food is cut into small pieces so the birds can easily chew it.
Also parrots need plenty of water to drink from in their cage.
If you take care of your pet parrot and maintain a comfortable space in their cage and socialize with them you will have a friend for life.
Parrots are colorful birds with distinctive beaks and small eyes and they have remarkable personalities.
