I’m an owl

I am a bird that is all wise and knowing by reputation 

I like hanging out on the branches of mighty trees 

I have a unique look

I stay up in the night

Some though prefer the day 

Owls have piercing eyes

Oblong body shape

Round faces

Small beak

They are mysterious creatures that intrigue bird enthusiasts and anyone who loves birds 

They can fly but are not generally long flight birds

They are however very quiet in flight

They easily glide and can fly distances of between 2 to 10 miles 


Owls have distinctive feathers, contour that aid in flight and down that help insulate and keep them warm in winter weather 


There are many different types of owls and nearly 200 species.


Some common owls are barn owls, snowy owls, elf owls, spotted owls, barred owls, great grey owls, spotted owls among others.


Owls live all around the world with the exception of Antarctica.


Most owls do live in tropical areas as they thrive in warmer climates but some do live in colder climates and do migrate when the temperatures get too cold.


Owls are generally solitary birds that prefer living alone but some form a group known as a parliament of owls. 


Owls are truly amazing in that they can rotate their heads three quarters of a turn. 


They habitat in forests, marshlands, deserts, cliffs, beaches, suburban areas and parks.


Owls feast on other smaller birds, insects, rodents and seek water when necessary. 


Owls are low flying birds as they don’t go sky high like most birds. 


In popular culture owls are portrayed as wise creatures like “Mr Owl” in the tootsie roll lollipop commercials where the owl is asked how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop and he concludes 3 licks before biting into the center.


Another popular brand featuring the owl is the Wise Potato Chips as they feature the owl in their logo.


Owls truly are fascinating animals and children of all ages are curious about the owl. 


The smallest owl is the elf owl growing to a length of only 5 inches with a wingspan of 9 inches.


The largest owl is the Eurasian eagle owl with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet. 


They can learn more about these amazing animals at the library, on bird watching tours and the internet. 


The most common owl in the United States is the Great Horned Owl. 


Owls are known for the sounds they make and their most distinctive is their hoot. 


Owls have existed in the world for over 60 million years based on fossils and have adapted to many different conditions and environments over time.


If you happen to get a glimpse of me in the trees and hear me hoot and see me turn my head please don’t be afraid as I have the ability to turn my head three quarters turn as

I’m a Pig Everyone thinks I’m sloppy and dirty on the farm. You’d be surprised to know that I’m actually a very clean animal. You probably are wondering if I’m a clean animal why do I roll around in the mud.  The simple reason is on hot days I have trouble with my body temperature and I can get overheated or burn in the sun.  On the farm to cool off we roll around in the mud which helps us deal with the heat.  We also need activities that help us during the day and playing in the mud allows us some fun with our friends and we can stay cool.  Farmers see that we have adequate mud pits as part of our care and water sprinklers to help us on hot summer days for dealing with the heat and in helping us get clean.  They feed us corn, nuts, fruits, berries grains, vegetables, dairy and some meats.  Pigs also need a plentiful supply of water.  Pigs also need to be visited by the veterinarian to make sure they’re in good health and managing well in the heat....

I’m a Penguin

I’m a Penguin They call us Emperor. We are used to making long treks in the cold winters on the icy waters that are frozen over when it’s time to search for food as we leave our mate and chicks behind.  The hardest part of our long anticipated journey is the separation from our family and facing the cold biting wind and heavy snows that makes the hundred mile trek near impossible but our only chance at survival is to forge through as we must overcome the obstacles so we can feed ourselves and everyone in the family. At least I’m accompanied by many friends as I’m never alone.  We line in formation as we navigate the difficult terrain supporting each other and reminding all why we must endure the elements to ensure our success. We are built for these challenges and rather adept at walking long distances though we’re unable to flap our wings and fly. I’m a Seal

I’m a Seal I live in the icy cold waters of the Arctic Ocean while other seals live in the Antarctic Ocean. They are the coldest of all the oceans of the world. Some seals live in the warm Pacific Ocean in California and Hawaii. Seals love the water and usually swim on the surface of the ocean exposing their heads with their bodies submerged as they flap.
