I’m a Blue jay
I’m a bird that is a wonderful greeter to your morning.
In fact I wake many up to my call of the early day.
You don’t need to thank me.
It’s my role.
All birds have this responsibility.
I’m loud and I am very colorful.
My sound is very distinctive.
I’m blue and white and have a lovely stately look.
My crest is blue.
I have a black border behind my crest.
My wings are blue with exquisite patterns.
I am a proud bird.
I fly the skies of Canada, Mexico and the United States.
There’s a baseball team named after me.
Toronto Blue jays.
A Canadian baseball team.
They are proud to wear the Blue jay on their uniform and cap.
The beauty of the Blue jay is captured in photographs.
We are featured in many magazines.
The Blue jay can be heard by many types of birds.
If under threat the blue jay will sound the alarm for all to find cover.
Protect themselves.
Go into hiding.
I’m generally a slow bird in flight.
Therefore I must be loud.
Vocal.
Intelligent.
Blue jays are very social birds and take care of their young.
They are fiercely protective and even aggressive when they have to be for their safety and the safety of the nest.
They fight back!
They also attack if provoked!
The Blue jay is a magnificent bird.
The Blue jay feeds on seeds, nuts such as acorns, soft fruits, vegetables and occasionally insects and worms.
The baby blue jays usually fly from the nest after 3 weeks and start to socialize with other young blue jays and start to develop independent personalities and behaviors.
Wild blue jays have a life expectancy of 7 years, domestic blue jays can live up to 12 years. Some if treated well can live longer. The oldest living blue jay has been recorded at 26 years.
Blue jays can fly up to 25 miles per hour and up to a thousand miles during one flight.
The blue jay weighs around 3 ounces and has a wing span of around 17 inches and from bill to tail is about 9 to 12 inches.
Male and female blue jays look very similar in size, color and appearance.
Blue jays live in the trees, take to the skies and fly pretty far distances and migrate to warmer climates when the cold weather hits.
Children are familiar with Mordecai, a blue jay who is friends with Rigby, a raccoon in the animated series Regular Show.
It is a popular children’s tv series and loved by children and their parents.
The Blue jay is a popular bird and is studied by bird watchers and enthusiasts.
