I’m a Mule
I’m a Mule
Did you ever see a horse or pony in the fields
Or a donkey on a farm
They are part of the equine family
Did you ever wonder if they came together to have a baby what it would be
Well if the horse or pony is female, a mare and the donkey male, a jack then the baby is a mule.
If the horse or pony is male, a stallion and donkey female, a jenny then the baby is a hinny.
Mules look similar to both horse and donkey as they are built like a horse but they have donkey ears.
A mule is a work animal like the donkey and the horse. Their work ethic is to be admired.
Donkeys are docile animals as are horses so why are mules thought to be stubborn?
Actually they’re not stubborn as the saying goes stubborn as a mule.
Mules are very docile animals but very cautious.
Hinnies are also very docile.
Hinnies and mules are different animals based on crossbreeding of horses, ponies and donkeys and the respective genders of each.
Hinnies are less common than mules but are also revered and admired.
It’s all so confusing but mules and hinnies can mate with horses and donkeys too and with each other though they are born sterile so they can’t have babies of their own.
Mules and hinnies have been crossbred for thousands of years back to Greek and Roman times and that continues to occur today but they can not have babies as they are born sterile.
Mules can run but not competitively since horses can far outrun mules in speed and distance.
Mules are adventurous though and can be ridden and traverse mountainous trails and terrain but extreme care must be taken.
Hinnies also can be ridden too with extreme care taken so the animals aren’t injured.
Horses can be traced as far back as 50 million years as evidenced by fossil records.
They have been held out as man’s best friend too competing with the dog.
Horses and Shetland ponies, from Scotland, are fast like the wind and are such beautiful animals.
Mules and hinnies have a lifespan of 30 to 40 years.
Mules and hinnies can run 15 miles per hour in the wild.
Hinnies are more disciplined than mules.
Despite their differences they are wonderful breeds of horses, ponies and donkeys.
If you cross a male horse with a female donkey you get a hinny.
If you cross a female horse with a male donkey you get me.
I’m a mule
