I’m a Coyote
I’m a Coyote
I’m a cross between a wolf and a dog.
I’m similar to the wolf in how I appear in the wild and different in other aspects of my life such as behavior and size.
Whereas wolves huddle in packs we huddle in pairs or go solo.
I can run with the best of them.
I may not be as fast as the wolf but I’m fast enough and I can survive in the cold weather and in the heat of summer.
Coyotes are smaller than wolves and although they’re predators they have a lesser range of prey they select from than wolves who are apex predators that are at the top of the food chain.
Coyotes have lighter coats than their wolf counterparts and are thinner in size, weight and height.
They are generally grey in color with some more tan or red similar to wolves.
Adult male coyotes weigh around 50 pounds while adult wolves weigh up to 120 pounds.
Wolves are stronger than coyotes by nature of their size and speed.
Wolves live in more isolated regions in the world compared to coyotes who have found their way in urban areas.
Coyotes also live in forests, wildernesses, grasslands, deserts, mountains, marshlands, cities, urban and rural areas.
There is one species of coyote with six subspecies and three species of wolves worldwide.
The lifespan of coyotes and wolves in the wild is between 6 and 8 years and in captivity that lifespan increases up to 18 years where wolves and coyotes are well taken care of, well fed, provided medical care and protected from would be predators.
Coyotes and wolves have been cross bred as Coywolves which exhibit characteristics of both coyotes and wolves.
Coyotes have expanded their range of habitat in the wilds of North America of up to thousands of miles within the past century so they must learn to coexist with wolves and other wildlife laying claim to the same land.
Coyotes can be traced back over 5 million years ago to the Americas.
There are various programs created to assist in protecting our wildlife from various factors such as climate change, global warming, habitat destruction, disease, predators and other factors.
Project Coyote is a program created to provide protections, resources and refuge for coyotes and wolves to exist in safe environments and ecosystems providing them opportunities to live out their lives in safe spaces critical for the balance of nature conservation and for their continued survival in the wild.
The coyote is a wonderful animal in its natural habitat and we must ensure that they continue to thrive and survive for generations to come.
Baby coyote pups are similar to dog puppies in cuteness and need for care after birth and coyote mothers are like dog mothers in the care of their young providing them shelter and nourishment in days, weeks and months following their arrival.
If you’re a fan of Looney Tunes then you should know about the exploits of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner and how Coyote is always being outsmarted by Road Runner.
Coyote tries everything to stop Road Runner but is no match.
Coyotes are amazing animals and are a very important part of the ecosystem and they have been known to thrive if they are kept safe and protected from predators and other dangers.
I run in the wild in search of shelter and food. I have a few friends I hang with. I’m friendly if you are. If you respect me I will be happy to brush by you. You can even take a picture.
